  • As a candidate, before going to the interview make sure you have had a look on the company’s website. Find out what they’re about, their company culture and show how you can add to this. This shows you’ve put in some extra effort and will go a long way.

2.    What kind of work environment do you thrive in?

  • This can tell you if they will fit in with your working environment, which is important to factor in if you want to hire productive and motivated employees.
  • Before answering this question really think about what helps you work to your full potential. If you know the work environment isn’t right for you then perhaps this is not the right role.

3.    ‘Tell me about a time you overcame a problem at work’

  • Here you can find out if your candidate is proactive and can come up with solutions to problems. This is a top quality of a good employee.
  • This is a chance for you to show your interviewer how you cope in difficult situations. Try to make the example relevant to the job role.

4.    How does this role fit in to your career plans?

  • If you want to find out how committed they would be to the role, this is an important one to ask. You can find out if they’re ambitious and if they plan to stick with your company for a long time.
  • Here you can discuss opportunities for progression within the company and whether it would be available to you. This shows you are ambitious and want to work hard.

5.    What hobbies do you have?

  • End on a positive note and find out a bit about who the candidate is outside of the workplace. Also find out if their hobbies relate to their work in any way. They might have some valuable skills to offer.
  • When talking about your hobbies, discuss something you are interested. This will show you are passionate which is good trait to have. If you can link it to the job you have applied for then that’s even better.
